Sonia Pulido

The work of Barcelona’s Sonia Pulido seems spot on for autumn, no? Something about each and every piece of her illustrated ceramics feels transitional, as though we’re capturing a glimpse right before the big finale. The minimal palette lends itself beautifully to that feeling, too.

Jack Hogan

Art that mimics… paint swashes and drips? Yes! Jack Hogan‘s acrylic on wood sculptures do just that by taking on a new dimension and leaning themselves languidly against walls or casually standing in the middle of the floor. And the response they create is kind of like that hot guy at last weekend’s party – the one that you couldn’t stop staring at.

Josephine Heilpern’s Recreation Center is a small shop with a focus on functional ceramic pieces. Her work is inspired by items that are designed to enrich everyday life, centered on practical design and simple forms. And while their functionality can’t be denied, neither can their sense of fun!

Michelle Matson

If paper can be grotesque Michelle Matson knows how to make it so. Her life-size figures are partially nude, wearing only running shoes and sports bras. Each one is arranged in what can only be described as open yet aggressive, all the while managing to come across as hilarious. Color me impressed.

Miniatures of just about anything hold intrigue, but miniatures of iconic buildings of the last century cast entirely in concrete are another story. Material Immaterial Studio has created a series celebrating concrete’s beauty and contribution to architecture as a material entitled SPACES and it’s just stunning.

Elnaz Nourizadeh

Iran-born, Melbourne-living Elnaz Nourizadeh started working with clay and learning pottery when she was 17 years old. In 2008 she began her professional life as a potter in Tehran, then moved up and on to having her own studio upon arriving in Melbourne in 2013. Elnaz’s explorations in clay and candy colors are striking and functional, pulling the best from both the modern and ancient ceramics.
