The packaging for Just Spices is lovely on many levels. Each can is made of paperboard, an aluminum lining, and an extra membrane for freshness. Sunlight can affect the flavors of spices, but this packaging is 100% protected for optimal preservation of the USDA organic goods enclosed. And lastly, my favorite part – the portraits. Each one tells the story of local cooks who helped develop what’s inside.
Cardamom is one of my favorite spices to bake with, I love the warmth and spice it exudes. But after doing some investigating it seems I’ve been selling my tastebuds short because you can use it in so many more ways than the oven. When the makers of gourmet microwave Diz-Diz Popcorn tasked Tatabi Studio with creating packaging that was both fun and luxurious, they started with the four flavor profiles – Parmesan, Curry, Cinnamon, and Vanilla. White marbled paper and colorful foils matching the different flavors come together to make even this popcorn hater want to dig in.
Lentils are a food that only found a place in my pantry a few years ago, we simply didn’t eat them while I was growing up. Now I love these versatile legumes! My Grandma’s nut roll, egg custard pie, Hershey Kiss cookies. All of these foods and more remind me of the holidays, including candy bark. What I love about this incredibly easy treat is that it can include everything but the kitchen sink or actually be borderline healthy for you depending on what you add. I miss doing big Christmas dinners, but brunches have their own kind of charm. There’s definite appeal in being able to do so much prep work the day before, and it’s nice being able to put out an equally sweet and savory spread that caters to everyone’s tastes. I chose recipes that are easy to grab and eat while you’re catching up around the tree to pair with a selection of cocktails and traditional non-alcoholic options.
