Rebecca Atwood + a Giveaway

Rebecca-Atwood-4-Design-Crush

I’m a big time fan of Brooklyn-based designer and artist Rebecca Atwood, so I’m over the moon about this week’s giveaway. The creation of Rebecca’s original collection of home textiles as a process starts with her sketchbook: drawing, painting, creating collages, and testing colors. Then each piece is created as part of a small batch edition with an eye towards hand dying, printing, and painting to retain the integrity of the original concept. The unpredictability of  the dye is whole heartedly embraced as well as the variations that naturally occur.

Rebecca has such a keen eye for color and texture, nowhere does this show more than in her pillow collection. I was especially drawn to her shibori collection with its vast pattern variations from pillow to pillow. The fabric was created using a modified version of the traditional shibori technique which involves folding the fabric into rectangles before dying to create the gridded end result.

So here’s the part you’ve been waiting for ever since you read the word giveaway. We’ve teamed up with Rebecca Atwood to give away a pair of her coveted pillows to one lucky reader! Choose from the Grid Shibori Marine Pillow, Lattice Shibori Marine Pillow, Striped Circle Pillows, or the Waves Natural Pillow – or mix and match. Enter for a chance to win below – you have until midnight CST Sunday, August 17th!

Far & Wide Collective

Far&Wide-Collective-2-Design-Crush

Far & Wide Collective partners with some of the most talented artisans in post-conflict and emerging economies, then connects them with the international market. The high quality pieces that are found in tucked away workshops and rural villages are then made available to us consumers, and a more sustainable infrastructure within these communities are given more stability. Add an exotic touch to your space with a beautiful basket or some color to your wardrobe with a caftan or beaded bracelet. Here are a few of my favorites.

Nell & Mary was founded in 2012 by Krista Stovel, Leah Stovel, and Avery Bloom. (Krista and Leah are sisters, and the shop is named after their grandmothers!) With backgrounds in interiors, fashion, art, sustainability, and manufacturing there was simply no way that this trio could go wrong. Nell & Mary’s collection of environmentally and socially conscious goods are created in their Portland studio, and all artwork is original to them. Looking forward to checking in on this shop as they continue to grow!

Area

Area Home-1-Design Crush

Once I finally get my move underway (which keeps getting pushed back further thanks to a lack of available real estate in Pittsburgh) I don’t plan on downsizing, but I do plan on consolidating. Some of you might recall that I had a massive garage sale last October which got rid of a lot of things, but still more to get rid of if at all possible. I only want to have two categories of possessions: meaningful or functional.

As soon as I saw Area‘s textiles I knew they were a perfect fit. The independently owned company is completely focused on quality and originality, which I’m hoping is just what my next home will be full of.

STACT

STACT-1-Design Crush

I’ve seen a lo-ot of modular wine storage systems, they’re popular and we all know it. What I haven’t seen is a minimalist modular wine system that’s been done as well as STACT. The panels come in seven different colors, so you can mix and match and add to the system as your collection grows. The end result can end up looking like an incredible art installation in its own right, all while freeing up precious counter space.

The Guest Room // The Bedding

Guest Room-Crane&Canopy-1-Design Crush

With my guest room’s walls being so dark, I really wanted to leverage other accents within it to bring in some brightness. As in most bedrooms the bed is the focal point, and with this room being small (12′ x 12′) I knew I wanted to capitalize on using light colored bedding.

Enter Crane & Canopy’s Octavia duvet set. The most perfect silver-grey jacquard there ever was, overlaid with an abstract pattern of mums. Not terribly girly for my male guests, just a very nice neutral that opens up the entire space. And I think everyone who spends the night in this bed will appreciate how uber soft the 350-thread-count set is to the touch. In fact, I need to try it out myself – they say you should always stay over in your own guest room to make sure it will be comfortable for future occupants. (And yes, I should definitely iron that duvet out!)

Just My Type (+ a Mark and Graham Pinterest Sweeps!)

Mark&Graham-DesignCrush

Remember that cheesy personalized gifts store? You know, the one that was inevitably in every mall in America back in the 90s. Well, Mark and Graham isn’t that. Being a graphic designer and having a innate love of type makes me a little leery of anything “personalized” by nature. So you can imagine the pleasant surprise I received when this next-generation personalization hit it right on the nose with their beautiful font options and clean, modern pieces. Mark and Graham believes that making your mark is more than a symbol, it’s an artful mingling of typography and design. And you know what? It really is.
