This Don James poster was one of those things I saw and just can’t get out of my mind. I love the use of type and white space. I love the photo. I love that the only color on the entire page is the orange 1503. I can already tell that it’s going to have to be mine at some point.
Valentine’s Day is two weeks from today and I’ve held off on this Round Up because new valentines keep popping up every day! So without further ado – or babble – here are my favorite valentines of 2008. (I tend to lean more towards the quirky/funny side with these cards because that’s just where my personality falls in regards to this holiday.)
16 Sparrows Valentine Cards Together, we make a pretty badass robot. Take those damn pants off!!

Can you imagine one of these invitations to the Helvetica is 50 bash showing up in your mailbox? I’d be tempted to keep it and not reply, but who in their right mind would ever miss an event like this. Love the white type on thin board. Nice and simplistic just like the guest of honor.
These posters are fantastic. An amazingly creative way to share advice and wisdom.
Advice to sink in slowly is a series of posters designed by recent and established graduates of University College Falmouth for the purpose of passing on advice and inspiration to first year students. A poster is given as a welcoming gift to every first year student when they enroll.
Calling cards seem to be making a mad comeback. These vintage rotary phone calling cards are one of my favorites I’ve seen yet. The vibrant colors and bold use of shapes and white space really caught my eye. Hopefully it will also catch the eye of whomever you bestow one of these upon!
Valentine’s Day is exactly one month from yesterday. Although I’m a firm believer in it being a full-on Hallmark holiday, I love the sentiment and ritual of giving out valentines. Remember decorating shoeboxes or paper bags as drop boxes in elementary school? So, so much fun if you were the Artsy Kid like I was.
I still give out valentines every year and don’t plan on stopping any time soon. But who says they have to be all saccharine-sweet? Check out these ridiculously hilarious valentines from etsy shop Scotia Made. I hate the phrase, but they literally had me laughing out loud when I first saw them.
No, I’m still not over Calendar Mania ’08. My latest infatuation lies with the Get Framed 2008 Calendar from IGE. It’s printed on a 16 x 24″ piece of cotton and comes with five tacks – four for hanging and one to mark the date. I like it because it seems more substantial than your everyday paper calendar. And totally affordable.
For anyone not in the know, (PRODUCT) RED is about helping make a difference in Africa. When you purchase anything under the (PRODUCT) RED umbrella, the retailer will donate up to 50% to the Global Fund to help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.
The program has been around at The Gap for awhile, but now Hallmark is getting in on the action with (PRODUCT) RED cards, gift wrap and merchandise. I hit up a store Friday and was really impressed with the design behind everything and managed to pick up a few cards myself. Check it out and support the cause.
These recipe boxes from Jack and Lulu are so fantastic that there’s no way I could choose just one. The lid of the lucite box even has a small tray that holds a recipe card for easy viewing. Love it.
