Matthew Mead Fall.

I adore Matthew Mead’s advice and ideas, only it makes me sad that he updates just once a season. I want more. The Fall version was released recently with some tasty looking recipes for chifon pies, as well as autumn style tips and decorating ideas for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Definitely make sure and check out the Downloads section for some fun ideas.

Repro Depot.

This past weekend I scavenged through Repro Depot’s fabrics. I’m always on the lookout for fun scraps for future projects and they always have the coolest looking textiles. Here are the fruits of my labor.

First Row: Aviary rose damask – orange, Chestnut Hill chestnut branches – eggplant, Etusko balance – shell;
Second Row: Etusko flower – moss, Manzanita ticking stripe – salmon, Modern Grace houndstooth;
Third Row: Nigella primrose – olive, Nigella wood fern – olive, Sweet gum – spice

Matthew Mead Style.

I discovered a great new site this morning – Matthew Mead Style – which pins themselves as “fresh ideas for modern living.” It’s very Martha in a less passive-aggressive, anal kind of way. Mr. Mead covers Entertaining, Style, Collecting, as well as a rotating category that can be anything from pasta recipes to holiday ideas. There’s also a section on downloads. The site is seasonally based, meaning it only changes once a season and is updated only that often. So far I love what’s been done and will definitely be checking back.

Martha’s Evil Empire Expands.

I’m torn. I’m torn between my love of all things design and craft and my immense dislike for Martha Stewart. She’s got a new branch of her empire – Martha Stewart Crafts. The products are available online or at the Michael’s store closest to you.

Paint Chip Card Holders.

I’ve mentioned my affinity for paint chips – and my inability to not collect piles of them – before.

This morning I found this genius idea on designverb: paint chip business card holders. It seems it may only work with Behr chips since they are the widest, but there’s a template available that you can download to your desktop for a standard 3.5 x 2″ business card. It’s not mentioned in the post, but I think it might be a good idea to laminate the chip before doing anything else. It doesn’t seem like it would be very durable otherwise.

Woohoo! Looks like it doesn’t take too much to make me happy today.

Bike Gear Windchime.

A pretty sweet idea from Make magazine for a bike gear windchime. I know quite a few ex-BMXers who would love one of these! Click here for a complete set of instructions.

Dreamy Bookshelves.

This is someone’s actual living room. And no, she’s not even a designer. I’m completely and totally 100% envious. I’ve wanted to do something similar with my book collection for a couple of years now (excuding the creepy naked doll), but unfortunately my collection doesn’t want to cooperate. I have a friend who attempted this only to give up halfway through because she didn’t have enough of the same colored books to pull it off (my issue as well). I’m convinced that this woman hasn’t read one of those books, that she only purchased them for their decorative capabilities. Otherwise, how could you pull this off?

Blackboard Paint.

Up until now I’ve not been a huge fan of blackboard paint used in adult environments (i.e. outside of a kid’s room). I don’t know, maybe I just associate it way too closely with that nails on a chalkboard sound. But I think Ikea finally did it right by painting all vertical surfaces in a kitchen with the paint. Or maybe it’s that really hot stainless steel refrigerator right in the middle. Fine. It’s a combination of the two.

Magazine Envelopes.

A few days ago I came across someone on Etsy selling homemade envelopes. Seeing them made countless memories of summer camp in Ligonier, PA come rushing back to the forefront of my mind. Not only did I spend two weeks of my summer at Camp Ligonier for three years in a row, but it’s also where I met my first legitimate boyfriend, Adam. This was back in the day before email had really arrived, so we wrote letters back and forth after the two weeks were over. Adam’s letters to me always arrived in envelopes ripped from the pages of Rolling Stone and Spin. My boyfriend was. So. Cool. Magazines became a new outlet for creativity – instead of reading the articles I immediately flipped through the pages looking for the perfect page that was coincidentally centered so I could fold one rockin’ envelope.
