Monday Goodness: What We Need

The above is an excerpt from Writers & the War Against Nature published in the Shambhala Sun, November 2007 issue. It needs to be passed on as much as possible because the sentiment is spot on, so please spread the love around.

Big Sickness.

I’m sorry for the lack of posts, but I’m headed out early today to nurse this stupid cold I’ve acquired. All hail the NyQuil.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and I’ll be back (hopefully germ-free) Monday morning.

Mean Cards.

Mean Cards by Julianna Holowka are fantasticly awesome.

A. Because I love anything with a stick figure.
B. Stick figures saying funny things are good.
C. This is how I feel today. I came down with a cold yesterday and it’s going to ruin my entire birthday weekend if it doesn’t get out of here real fast!

Insula Cup.

The Insula Cup, designed by McKay Duncan, has a really organic feel about it. Th exterior texture is gently rippled while the insulated double wall makes the cup cool to the touch while keeping everything inside hot as can be. I think it would also make a great little vase or pencil cup to display on an end table or my (oops, I mean your) desk.

Be Tough Tee.

Sebastien and Ivan over at Atypyk created the badass Be Tough t-shirt some time ago. It was even curated for bit until being brought back to life. And I’m so glad it was because I’m 99% sure that wearing it would be the one time in my life when I got to pack some heat.

A City of Magazines.

Aside from simple unfinished-wood magazine holders, these are likely the only ones I would allow to adorn my shelves. Together this series of illustrated holders creates an entire city block of different styles and periods: Jugend, Renaissance, Gothic Stle, etc. Designed by Happy Forsman & Bodenfors and illustrated by Klas Fahlén for The Swedish Museum of Architecture, the magazine holders are only available for purchase through the Museum Shop. How beautifully tragic!

Violet.

I recently discovered Violet and couldn’t think better of it. What’s so different is the way in which they’re organized – in traditional categories as well as in ways that reflect a person’s personality, tastes and emotions. All of the thought Violet has put into their organization makes it that much easier (and faster!) for you to find that Perfect Something. And there are scads of Perfect Somethings to choose from. These are just a few of the things that caught my eye.

Clockwise from top left: Best Bubble box, Cards for a Year, Punctuation cards, Universal Filing System folders, Towering espresso set

Sweet's Candy.

The morning after Halloween most people are at their candy saturation point. I said most people. *wink, wink*

Sweet’s Candy creates some seriously quality candies out in Salt Lake City. And some seriously clever packaging for their Twist Box series filled with classic candy. I love the idea of opening a big piece of ‘candy’ to get to the rest of the goods.

Chocolate Jug.

It’s the perfect time of year for the chocolate jug. The manual blender mixes the chocolate (powder or crushed pieces) and milk producing just the right amount of frothiness. Sounds like chocolatey goodness to me.
